~ EWAS FAUNA ~

My name is EWA – Ewa Wiberg – born and raised in Malmö, Skåne, but I now live in Blekinge – since 1995. I love living "in the country-side", with nature right outside my door. Each morning I get a visit from the natures residents, deer, fox, squirrels and birds of many kind... and since I LOVE animals, I welcome every visit.

I also love to paint, and my favourite models are animals, but I also find flowers fascinating.

I have been painting portraits for as long as I can remember. I started with dogs and cats, but today I paint everything from ants to elephants!

Humbly I may say that I have received a lot of praise from my "customers" who claims that they have got their deceased pet "back", so to speak.

In the 1980's my portraits were well known – in this country, because a weekly magazine (Hemmets Journal) had a special page called: "The Animal Portrait". Each week the readers could "win" their own "Ewa Wiberg-painting", if they had a story to tell about their pets, photos were taken and I painted a portrait from these photos. Later everything was published. This was only intended to be for a short period of time, but it ended up going on for many, many years as it was so popular. Eventually I had to give it up, as I couldn't find the time to keep it up. I even had to turm down orders for portraits. Each portrait takes a lot of time to complete since I am very particular, I want every little hair of the coat to be visible in the portrait. It's not just a picture, it's an effort to try and catch the inner essence of the being...

I've got a lot of happy memories from this "public" period of my life, and many "prominet" people, so called "celebrities" have got my paintings. To mention a few of them: Kikki Danielsson (Swedish singer), Cliff Richard (England), John Denver (USA) and John Farnham (Australia).

It's a thrill to know that my paintings do hang on many walls all over the world. My very first exhibition in Sweden was a big success, and I sold every picture in 20 minutes! It's a record that is hard to beat! Over the years I have shown my paintings, mostly "The Scandinavian Fauna" in many countries all over the world, for example, in Innsbruck/Austria, Miami/USA and Melbourne/Australia. This has been possible as another of my huge passions in life are travelling!

Today, my life is a bit less hectic. The pets sharing my life today are three, a simply gorgeous King Charles Spaniel, "Musse Pigg", an English bulldog, the kind and lovable "Dogglas", and a beautiful cat, "Kotte", who rules us all! Flatfaced dogs have a special place in my heart. Other breeds I have been fortunate enough to have in my life are Keeshond, Shih-tzus, Pekingese and Pugs.
